In
California – Eight children were placed into protective custody following
four separate Meth lab busts over the course of less than a month. The
children ranged in age from 10-months old to 14-years-old. A total of
seven adults were arrested in the raids. In one home, officers executing
a search warrant found two children, 9- and 7-years-old, threatened by
mounds of decaying garbage, open electrical cords, hazardous piles of junk
material and exposure to the use of Meth.
In Oregon – Police acting on a tip discovered four children, aged 3 to 11,
along with about an ounce and a half of Meth in a home. Five adults were
arrested.
In Missouri – A tip to the state Division of Family Services hotline led
to a home investigation and discovery of a Meth lab. The investigating
deputy found an acid generator, Meth-related chemicals and several
containers with layered liquids. Three children in the home were taken
into DFS custody. Three adults were arrested.
In Arizona - A 19-year-old transient man accused of selling the
Meth that sent four eighth-graders to the hospital pleaded guilty to a
reduced charge and may get probation. He was arrested two days after the
students were hospitalized after taking the Meth at school. He was
accused of selling the drugs to one of the boys in a residential area and
was arrested at a skate park. He faced a mandatory five- to 15- year
prison sentence, but he struck a deal with prosecutors and now faces
probation or a lower prison term.
In Tennessee - The Little Learners Day Care is closed, and its
operators are in jail facing Meth manufacturing charges after deputies
discovered components of a Meth lab in the facility. The owner, a
36-year-old woman, held a state license to care for seven children, ages 6
weeks to 12 years old. Authorities found children sleeping amid the odor
of chemicals used to make the drug. A Sheriff's Detective visited the
home to investigate a complaint when he saw "three or more small children
sleeping on the floor and in another room observed two or more small
children sleeping on the floor." The execution of a search warrant
turned up a small amount of Meth and materials to make it.
In California – A 31-year-old man faces charges of involuntary
manslaughter in the deaths of his twin 1-month old daughters. Police said
the death happened when the man fell asleep in bed with the babies and
rolled on top of them. Police believe he was under the influence of Meth.
The suspect’s estranged wife testified that she observed him frequently
using Meth. A police sergeant testified that the man’s blood test results
tested positive for Meth and a depressant.
In Utah - A woman is in jail for smoking Meth in front of her 20-month old
baby. Officers following up on a tip smelled drugs outside the
apartment. They found drugs, including Meth, in the baby's diaper bag.
The woman was booked on drug and child endangerment charges and the baby
was put into state custody.
In Florida – Police investigating a complaint about a viscous
dog noticed a chemical smell associated with Meth labs. Their follow up
investigation turned up evidence showing a storage area for Meth
manufacturing chemicals. A man living in the home is charged with
possession of Meth and probation violations. A woman is accused of child
neglect for allowing her 8- and 10-year old children live in what officers
describe as “filthy rotten conditions…cockroach infested, feces on the
floor and no food in the fridge”. The children were put into protective
custody.
In Tennessee - A 19-month-old girl was put into the state's Human Services
Department’s care after sheriff's deputies found drugs in her home,
including Meth next to her pacifier on a bookcase. Three adults, including
the girl's mother, are charged with possession of drugs for resale, having
drug paraphernalia and child endangerment.
In Michigan – A girls cross-country and track coach was one of
three men named in a federal indictment following a Drug Enforcement
Administration investigation in 2005 involving a suspected Meth lab. The
coach was charged with Meth possession, a misdemeanor
In Indiana - Police responding to a report of a man kicking in a front
door at a mobile home park discovered the makings of a Meth lab. Two
adults and a 5-year-old girl, as well as one police officer, were taken to
a hospital for precautionary care. The two adults, a 34-year-old man and
a pregnant 27-year-old woman, face a number of charges neglect of a
dependent.
In
Oregon – A 36-year-old mother of seven children was arrested
on
accusations of drug dealing and child endangerment. Deputies described
the children’s home as filled with drugs, guns, garbage and dog
feces. The children, ages 3 to 17, were placed in the care of relatives.
Nearly 60 officers took part in the raid and seized 13 guns and a
quarter-ounce of Meth.
In
Indiana – When police
raided a Meth lab in an apartment, they found a 14-year-old nephew of the
main suspect. The man is is under arrest facing charges for Meth
distribution. He allegedly lived in the home with his girlfriend and
child.
In
Tennessee - A 36-year-old woman who is accused of making and selling Meth
out of her daycare says she didn’t do anything wrong. The woman and her
41-year-old boyfriend are charged with manufacturing Meth and reckless
endangerment. Authorities found suspicious liquids, paraphernalia, drugs
and explosives in a search of the daycare. Investigators also say
dangerous residue was found on many of the toys at the center. The
parents of the children who attended the daycare center have been advised
to have their children examined by a doctor.
In
Arizona - A couple will serve at least five years in prison after pleading
guilty to selling Meth from a motel room. The County Attorney's Office
has not determined whether to charge the couple in the drowning death of
their 5-year-old daughter last May.
In
Arkansas -
A
24-year-old man and his 22-year-old wife face charges of intending to
manufacture Meth. They also face charges of endangering the welfare of a
minor after authorities learned the couple's 3-year-old child allegedly
stayed in their home during the Meth manufacturing.
In
Arizona – When sheriff’s deputies started searching a home suspected of
hiding a Meth lab, they found dirty diapers strewn about and harsh
chemicals sitting next to a loaf of bread. A 30-year-old man who lived in
the guesthouse behind his parents' home was arrested. His 36-year-old
girlfriend was arrested later. When police picked up the man, he had two
of his girlfriend’s daughters with him in his van - a 2-year-old and
2-month-old. The infant tested positive for Meth and methadone. The woman
has eight other children.
In
California – An 18-year-old teen, eight months
pregnant and charged with selling Meth, pled guilty to charges as part of
a plea agreement. She was originally charged with possession of Meth for
sale, possession of Meth and possession of marijuana. Deputies serving a
search warrant at her apartment found 1.2 ounces of Meth hidden in a
container in the living room, a small amount of marijuana along with sales
packaging and $600 cash. Investigators believe the suspect was strictly a
dealer, not a Meth user.
In Pennsylvania - Two men, 43- and 22-years
old, and two women, 38- and 19 –years old, were arrested and charged with
manufacturing Meth inside a trailer. They were also charged with
endangering the welfare of children who were in the trailer at the time.
In
South Carolina - A couple faces charges of child endangerment after
investigators say the two ran a Meth lab at their home while their
11-month-old son lived there. The 30-year-old man and 25-year-old woman
are charged with trafficking in Meth, criminal conspiracy, and child
endangerment. Officers say they cooked Meth while their son was in the
home. The woman is seven months pregnant. Investigators found four pounds
of Meth inside their home. After the child was examined at a hospital, he
was placed into a relative’s custody. |
