Rosebud Tracks Meth Increase
According to the Rosebud Police Department director of Criminal
Investigations Department, Meth use and manufacturing on the reservation
is growing. In 2005, RPD confiscated over a pound of Meth with a street
value of about $16,000. The biggest Meth bust by the department in 2005
resulted in 429-grams of the drug being seized – the director says that’s
about enough for 400 doses. There were two deaths as a result of Meth
overdoses on the Rosebud Reservation during 2005. The CID director also
points to a high influx of patients with Meth-related illnesses and
injuries at Indian Health Services as an indicator of the growing problem
with Meth.
2005 marked the first year the RPD
kept track of the amount of confiscated Meth, so there is no definite
comparison to earlier years.
