Meth in the News

MAPP-SD develops and provides a variety of training and educational opportunities to reach individuals, communities, businesses and groups across South Dakota.

In 2005, MAPP-SD staff presented educational information on Meth to 12,325 people in South Dakota, in increase of about 13% over the number of people reached with awareness and prevention presentations in 2004.

Presentations in 2005 included DEC (Drug Endangered Children) training sessions, awareness information on signs & symptoms of Meth use, Meth lab awareness and dangers, Ditch Walk safety, First Responders’ safety training, Meth lab cleanup information, METH ALERT© information for retailers, and more.

Groups receiving training and awareness presentations have included teachers and other school staff, bus drivers, daycare providers, social service agency staff, realtors, property managers, human resource managers, first responders, EMTs, law enforcement, dentists, pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, medical professionals, retail store managers and staff, tribal councils, utility workers, parents, community service groups, Neighborhood Watch groups, foster parents, and many others.

As of the end of December 2005, MAPP-SD is providing support to 35 South Dakota counties in their Meth prevention efforts.
