National Drug Intelligence Center
National Drug Threat Assessment 2007

The NDIC (a part of the Department of Justice) released its latest report on the threat drugs pose to the United States.  In the section dealing with Meth, it details the influx of Mexican Meth on the national scene, and the role drug trafficking organizations/cartels are playing.  Key findings in the report include:

  • Recent state and federal controls over the purchase of Meth precursor chemicals have contributed to a sharp decrease in domestic Meth production.

  • The restrictions and pressure from law enforcement have forced most domestic superlabs to relocate.

  • Meth production in Mexico has increased sharply.

  • Mexican drug cartels are expanding to fill the gap in Meth markets in the U.S.

  • There is more ice Meth being brought in from Mexico, which is most likely contributing to more Meth addiction in the U.S.
