Three people, a 25-year-old man and two women – 39 and 27-years old – were arrested over the weekend after trying to steal Sudafed from a Sioux Falls Lewis drugstore. The three, all from Fort Dodge, apparently traveled to South Dakota to beat the tougher sales restrictions in their home state. Their plan was foiled when an alert store employee noticed the man sliding packets of the medicine into his jacket and called the police. One of the women also had some tablets hidden in her purse. After their arrests, officers searched their van and found a third suspect, 70 boxes of Sudafed, a syringe, a marijuana pipe, and other drug paraphernalia. In South Dakota, customers are limited to buying two packages of medications containing pseudoephedrine at a time, but if pseudoephedrine is not the main ingredient the product may be displayed on the shelves. In Iowa, any product containing pseudoephedrine must be kept behind the sales counter. Other out-of-state smurfers have been arrested in South Dakota as they attempt to stock up on supplies to cook Meth. From Sioux Falls Argus Leader, keloland.com, ksfy.com and kdlt.com |
