”Put the
Brakes” on Meth, a tri-state drug enforcement project, led to the arrest and
charging of two people for possession of pseudoephedrine with intent to
manufacture Meth. The project’s message is simple: People crossing state lines
to purchase products to make Meth will face federal prosecution.
One suspect in the August
20th arrest is a 21-year old woman from North Sioux City, South
Dakota. The other is a 23-year old man from Sioux City, Iowa.
Officers found six boxes of pseudoephedrine, Coleman fuel, nine boxes of
matches, three "Heet" containers, acetone and hydrogen peroxide in the suspects’
possession. They're all items that are instrumental in making Meth. A number of
South Sioux City, Nebraska, businesses were a key part to the investigation.
They alerted authorities to suspicious purchases.
In court, the woman said she had been buying the pseudoephedrine for the other
suspect in exchange for free Meth. The man admitted to authorities that he's
been cooking Meth since he was 13 or 14 years old. He's been buying
pseudoephedrine in Sioux City for the last year. If they are found guilty, each
could face a maximum of five years behind bars and a $10,000 fine.
