Following a yearlong
investigation, 21 people were indicted by a Yankton County grand jury and
arrested on a variety of drug charges. The majority of the suspects lived in
Yankton, with a few from Aberdeen or Sioux Falls. They range in age from 18 to
46 years old. They face charges including possession and distribution of
methamphetamine, amphetamine, cocaine, crack cocaine, marijuana, heroin and
psilocybin mushrooms.
Approximately 550 grams (slightly over one-pound) of methamphetamine, 200 grams
of cocaine, 12.25 ounces of marijuana, .89 grams of heroin and 2.1 grams of
psilocybin mushrooms were seized during the course of the investigation. The
street value was estimated at more than $82,000.
While the 21 suspects
await further court action, authorities say there are more arrests to come. The
cases are currently being prosecuted by the Attorney
General's Drug Prosecution Unit.
