January 10In
South Dakota – (From the
Rapid City Journal) State Supreme Court Chief Justice David
Gilbertson, in his State of the Judiciary presentation to the state
legislature, urged changes in the way Meth offenders are handled. The
state court system will ask the Legislature to fund a pilot drug treatment
initiative in the Black Hills. If the intensive probation program of 12
to 24 months is a success, it could be expanded statewide. Gilbertson
pointed out that most felony cases in Sioux Falls and Rapid City now have
ties to Meth. The program would only be available for addicts, not
dealers. In California - Agents uncovered almost 90-pounds of Meth and arrested 19 people during a major investigation. The drugs, worth $3.2-million, were in two vehicles. Authorities allege the ring distributed hundreds of pounds of Meth to street gangs and dealers throughout Southern California. All 19-suspects were arrested on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance for sale. In
Michigan - Police officers responded to a call from a hospital where
an 18-year-old man initially claimed someone threw a flammable liquid in
his face during an assault. When officers investigated further, they
found a Meth lab in a home. Three people were arrested. In
North Dakota - Two men face felony drug charges after being arrested
in possession of more than a pound of Meth. The 28- and 23-year-olds are
both charged with possession with intent to deliver. According to a
sheriff, the suspects were heading for the Turtle Mountain Indian
Reservation when they were arrested. Several agencies were involved in
the investigation leading up to the arrests.
