In
Colorado - A jury convicted a 40-year-old man of supplying Meth to a
large drug ring. He was found guilty of distribution of a controlled
substance and a sentence-enhancing special offender charge. When the
defendant is sentenced in July, he will face 96-years in prison, an
enhanced sentence because he was on parole for four felony convictions
when he was arrested on the Meth charges. 31-people were arrested in
connection with the drug ring, which brought Meth into Colorado from
Mexico and Arizona.
In
Pennsylvania - A man convicted of running a Meth distribution network
faces a minimum of 15 years in federal prison when he is sentenced in
September. He was arrested, along with his stepbrother, after an
undercover operation found the two were selling four to five pounds of
Meth and marijuana from their home every week. When officers raided the
house, they found more than a kilogram of Meth, more than two kilos of
marijuana, about $70,000 cash, a rifle, a stolen handgun and thousands of
rounds of ammunition. They also seized surveillance and security
equipment. The stepbrother pleaded guilty to charges and will be
sentenced in federal court.
In
Louisiana - About 50 families in a rural
area are on standby to evacuate their homes while officials wait for
specialists to dismantle and clean up an abandoned Meth lab. The lab was
discovered in a building in a field, and officers believe it may have been
in operation for as many as ten years. Local law enforcement doesn’t have
the training or equipment to take care of the waste, and the land owner
will probably have to hire a specialty company to clean it up.
In
Kentucky – A once-prominent
jockey pleaded guilty to multiple Meth-related charges. The 31-year-old
woman and her 41-year-old husband were both facing multiple charges for
manufacturing and selling Meth. The woman pleaded guilty to several
complicity charges and agreed to a 10-year sentence. Her husband pleaded
guilty to multiple counts of Meth manufacturing and selling. He faces a
25-year sentence. The jockey won 12 races in 2005.
In
Minnesota - A 28-year-old man pleaded guilty to attempting to sell
Meth and sentenced to four-years in prison, with 594 days credit for time
served. He was also ordered to pay $1,487 in restitution and fines.
