July 16, 2007In Missouri - A mother testified Monday that she caught a 32-year-old man in the act of sexually molesting her 8-year-old daughter last year in a shed behind their home shortly after she had been smoking Meth with him. The defendant is on trial on a charge of first-degree statutory sodomy. His attorney claims that the girl’s mother misinterpreted what she saw because she was high on Meth. Both the man and woman admit to smoking Meth the day of the alleged incident. In Indiana – A sheriff’s department sent investigators to check out a tip concerning a chemical type smell and suspicious activity at a home. Once inside the home, officers saw Meth and an unassembled Meth lab, with strong evidence that the people in the house had cooked the Meth earlier in the day and then tore down the lab. A 31-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl were arrested and charged with possession of Meth and of lab components. In California - A forensic pathologist testifying at an inquest reported that a hammer-wielding burglary suspect killed in January by authorities had signs of Meth use in his blood. The 37-year-old man died after a sheriff's deputy shot him in the head at the scene of an interrupted burglary. The deputy shot when the suspect lurched at him from a distance of a couple feet, with a rusty claw hammer raised above his head. The forensic pathologist testified that while the victim died from the gunshot wound, he also had a rather high level of Meth in his blood, and a relatively low level of Valium. He had an extensive arrest history and was a suspect at the time in other local residential burglaries. In Minnesota – Police discovered more than 10-grams of Meth in a car they stopped because it had a cracked windshield. Two men, 23- and 21-years old, were arrested. After pulling over the car, officers found that the driver’s license had been revoked. The suspect became verbally abusive when officers put him in the police car and then tried kicking out the glass partition in the squad car. A search of the car turned up more than 10-grams of Meth under the driver's seat, as well as two other stashes in the ashtray and under amplifiers behind the driver's seat. In Minnesota – A 33-year-old man who was dealing Meth within months of being released from prison will return to a state facility for several years. The defendant received a 61-month - nearly five-years - prison sentence after pleading guilty to an amended felony count of third-degree drug crime. He was arrested last August after selling Meth to a police informant. He served earlier prison sentences for drug crimes, including Meth. In Saskatchewan, Canada - Police responded to a call for assistance from a 24-year-old man, but when they arrived, the man refused to co-operate and was taken into custody for his own safety and taken to a hospital. While police were in the apartment, they noticed a large number of chemicals and equipment used to manufacture Meth. The police got a search warrant and called in specialists from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Officers evacuated everyone from the building as a precaution while the Meth lab was dismantled. Officers seized what they describe as a large amount of drugs and chemicals. The suspect was released from the hospital and now faces charges of possession of a controlled substance and manufacturing of a controlled substance.
