Sept. 10, 2007

In Indiana – Police reported the arrests of two men, 50- and 37-years-old, in late August on Meth manufacturing charges.  Police searched an apartment above a truck repair business and found one suspect in a hidden compartment, along with 15-grams of Meth.  That man was already wanted on a warrant.  The other suspect was arrested in the apartment.  They both face manufacturing charges after officers discovered numerous precursors.  In addition to the various Meth-related charges, prosecutors want to treat both men as habitual offenders.

In Kansas - Officers serving a search warrant on a home found a Meth lab, Meth, marijuana and a lot of drug paraphernalia.  The home’s owner, a 52-year-old man, was arrested on multiple Meth charges.  Police say he has a lengthy Meth manufacturing history.

In Indiana - Two half-brothers were arrested at a home where police say they were running a Meth lab in the basement.   The men, 40- and 36, face several Meth-related felony charges.  The older man faces additional charges of neglect of a dependent.  His family, including three small children, lived in the home above the Meth lab.  Police who pulled them over for a traffic violation saw coffee filters with what turned out to be Meth residue in them.  Officers obtained and executed a search warrant discovered the working Meth lab in the home’s basement, located just under the living area where the owner’s wife and children were found sleeping. Police also found containers of anhydrous ammonia under the front porch, in the back yard and in a nearby cornfield.  After getting permission from the other suspect, police searched his trailer and found Meth, marijuana, and several handguns and rifles, along with more Meth lab components.

In Pennsylvania -
One of two brothers accused of running a Meth lab in a personal care home received a 15-year federal prison sentence.  He earlier pleaded guilty to conspiracy, manufacturing Meth and endangering human life.  His brother also pleaded guilty and will be sentenced in October.  They were making Meth in the group home, where eight mentally or physically disabled residents, ages 40 to 80, lived.

In Tennessee - A Sheriff’s office quarantined a home after finding a Meth lab when they executed a search warrant.  Police noticed a driver illegally passing other cars, and followed him to a business.  They first gave the driver a traffic citation, but then saw several containers of pseudoephedrine inside the car.  Detectives went to the suspect’s home and were greeted with the strong chemical odor associated with cooking Meth.  They executed a search warrant and found a ‘good sized’ Meth lab.

In Wisconsin – A 48-year-old man awaiting trial on charges of running at least three Meth labs had new charges filed against him.  He allegedly threatened a star witness against testifying against him in court.  Prosecutors added felony charges of intimidation of a witness against him.  The witness told police that the suspect was sending letters to her home; the last four of them were threatening and the woman began to fear for her safety.  The suspect has pleaded not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect.

In Virginia - A federal judge sentenced two convicted Meth dealers to long prison terms.  A man received ten years and one month in prison for conspiracy to distribute more than 500-grams of Meth.  A woman was sentenced to seven years and three months in prison for conspiracy to distribute more than 50 grams of Meth.

In Mississippi - A man was burned on his face, arms, chest and legs when a Meth lab apparently exploded in his face.  Authorities responded to reports of an explosion at a home and found burns and scorching leading from the master bedroom out a rear door and into the backyard.  It appeared the man was in the bedroom with the Meth lab when it exploded.  He put out the fire using an extinguisher and garden hose and threw burning furniture and carpeting out the back door.  Investigators found evidence that the man cooked Meth a number of times in his home.  Charges are pending.

In Georgia - Sheriff's deputies busted a Meth lab and arrested three people – two of them had active warrants out for their arrest.  Deputies had been searching for a 22-year-old woman wanted on a probation violation.  She had been arrested year ago in a different Meth lab bust. Officers following up a tip on her location went to a home and knocked, but even though they could hear people inside, no one answered the door.  Deputies then made a forced entry and found the woman and a man holding the homeowner in the bedroom against his will in an attempt to stop their arrest.  The two are charged with false imprisonment along with Meth charges.  Officers found Meth and lab components in a car hidden on the property.  The homeowner is also facing Meth charges.

In Tennessee - Police serving a search warrant on a home found signs of a Meth lab and stolen property.  Officers also found weapons in the home.  Charges are pending against two adults and two juveniles found in the residence.

In Nebraska - A 28-year-old man is charged with possessing 50 grams or more of Meth with the intent to distribute it.  If he is convicted, the suspect faces five to 40 years in prison, a $2 million fine and at least four years of supervised release.  He is scheduled to go on trial in November.

In California - A 20-year-old man was arrested when police responded to a report of a fight over a lottery ticket.  An officer reportedly found
a glass pipe for smoking Meth in the suspect’s pants pocket.  While he was being booked at the jail, police found 0.2 grams of crystal Meth inside a crumpled-up lottery ticket in one of his shoes.  He is charged with possession of Meth and paraphernalia.  In a separate case, a 25-year-old woman was arrested behind a motel on charges of Meth possession and an outstanding arrest warrant.

In Florida - A 26-year-old man is held on suspicion of running a Meth lab on his property.  Investigators ran video surveillance of the suspect entering the suspected lab; they also found 135-grams of ephedrine, chemicals and equipment for the lab.
