In South Dakota – State highway patrol officers pulled over a car for a traffic violation on I-90 near Chamberlain.  A drug dog alerted the troopers to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle, and a search revealed a hidden compartment.  Inside, officers found 12-pounds of crystal Meth and about 22-pounds of cocaine.  The suspects, both from Mexico, face charges of Meth and cocaine possession and intent to distribute a controlled substance.  In addition to the Highway Patrol, the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration and Immigration and Customs Enforcement are investigating the case.

In Colorado – Deputies responding to a report of people trespassing in a mobile home, possibly using drugs, discovered three people inside the home.  One man knocked a suspected Meth pipe to the ground, and deputies spotted another glass pipe.  That was enough to trigger a search, and the deputies found Meth, a scale and potential packaging materials.  They also discovered several knives in a cupboard. One of the suspects told deputies he had used Meth earlier in the day.  The three men were arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, deadly weapons and drug paraphernalia.

In Edmonton, Canada - A man on trial for murdering his former girlfriend is saying he's not guilty because he was using crystal Meth and, therefore, not in his right mind at the time of the killing.  The 21-year-old defendant admits he shot and killed his 19-year-old former girlfriend.  Five bullets struck the woman, who was about six months pregnant, after she opened the door of her home – three shots hit her in the stomach and two in the head.  Her unborn child, a boy, also died in the shooting.  The defense lawyer argues that the man was so ‘messed up’ on Meth at the time of the shooting that he really didn’t know what he was doing.  He claims he believed people could read his mind and that the unborn child was speaking to him, telling him he didn't want to be born.

In Oregon - A woman pled guilty to being high on Meth when she ran a stop sign, crashed into a tractor-trailer and killed her 54-year-old father.  She was sentenced to four years in prison on charges of criminally negligent homicide, assault and driving under the influence.  The woman and her former boyfriend both suffered brain injuries in the crash.
