Oct. 4, 2007In Louisiana - A 32-year-old man was arrested on charges of leaving Meth within the reach of his 2-year-old son, who ate it. The suspect faces counts of cruelty to a juvenile and illegal use of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a juvenile. The boy was spending the night at his father’s when the child’s grandmother stopped to visit. She noticed the boy seemed weak, so she and the father took the child to a hospital. There, doctors discovered the child had Meth in his system and called child welfare. The toddler was treated and released from the hospital. Under questioning, the father admitted to a drug binge the same day, saying he used several different drugs and put them in a cabinet to finish later. He thinks he may have had Meth residue on his fingers when he gave his son a bottle and put him to bed. In Pennsylvania – The 33-year-old president and a 30-year-old board member of the Pennsylvania Breed Outlaw Motorcycle Club face up to life in prison after a jury convicted them on charges of running a multimillion-dollar Meth trafficking ring and other crimes. Another man, 53-years-old, who has been a Breed member for more than 25-years, was also convicted on lesser charges and faces a 21- to 27-years in federal prison. Ten members of the bike club testified against the president, even though he threatened to kill them if they cooperated with law enforcement. The jury found the trio guilty of conspiracy to possess and distribute Meth. The president and board member were also convicted of multiple counts of violent crimes in the aid of racketeering, multiple counts of possessing a firearm in a drug-trafficking offense and two counts of possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon, and the president was convicted of extortion and possession of a machine gun. The two ‘officials’ of the gang face up to life imprisonment, and the third man faces 21 to 27 years in federal prison. They face a total forfeiture of $326,085, two homes, five Harley-Davidson motorcycles, four trucks and four cars, plus 24 weapons and ammunition, including handguns, rifles, shotguns and a machine gun. Over the past year and a half, 19 members of the gang have been convicted of various crimes. Officials expect to arrest more Breed members in the near future as a joint state-federal drug probe continues. In California - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers seized $415,000 worth of drugs in three days at the Tecate port of entry. Officers found more than 25 pounds of Meth and 28 pounds of marijuana as well as 100 tablets of Soma in various busts. They made their largest seizure after discovering a 33-year-old man attempting to smuggle eight wrapped packages of Meth in the rear bumper of his car. In Texas – A 33-year-old man indicted on federal drug charges as part of a Meth trafficking conspiracy is suspected of fatally shooting another man at a motel. He is also charged with aggravated assault, possession of a controlled substance and failure to maintain financial responsibility. He is one of 15 people charged in the Meth distribution ring. In Utah – Police seized more than 2.5-pounds of Meth and arrested three men after one officer noticed a suspicious motorist in a motel parking lot. The officer followed the driver and eventually pulled him over on a traffic violation. A search of the car turned up drugs and cash. The driver and passenger were arrested. Further investigation led police back to the motel, where more drugs were seized and another man arrested. It turned out that the suspects were also being watched by the Drug Enforcement Administration as part of an ongoing investigation into Meth distribution. The three men are illegal immigrants believed to have brought their Meth across the border from Mexico. Because of the amount of drugs found, the trio likely face federal charges. In Texas - Two officers were moving a container packed with chemicals confiscated from a Meth lab bust in a county office building’s basement, when the container broke, spilling the chemicals in a cloud of smoke. The spill forced an evacuation of the building, with all employees ordered out of the area until the chemicals were cleaned up and an air quality test showed no danger of exposure.
In
North Carolina – There have been rumors flying around the country
about colored, flavored ice Meth called Strawberry Quick.
But a sheriff in
North Carolina now says he has held it in his hand, and describes the odor
as “just like strawberries.” The crystal Meth that looks like candy was
found in the course of an arrest in September. “It is a pink ice-looking
substance and smells like strawberries,” according to the sheriff. The
Meth was found after a three-month-long investigation, when a search
warrant turned up multiple drugs, including ‘multiple’ ounces of the
strawberry Meth. A 50-year-old man was arrested on charges including
multiple counts of possession and sale of controlled substances and
maintaining a dwelling for the purposes of selling and keeping a
controlled substance. A 22-year-old woman was also arrested during the
raid on charges of Meth possession, opium trafficking and maintaining a
dwelling for the purposes of selling and keeping narcotics. Back to
