In
Nevada Tips to a Meth hotline and an ensuing investigation led to the
arrests of eight people and the seizure of almost 6 ounces of Meth. The
largest seizure was more than 4 ounces of Meth taken from a 23-year-old
man.
In
Illinois Two men were sentenced to in federal court after pleading
guilty to conspiring to manufacture and distribute Meth. A 40-year-old
man was sentenced to 30 years imprisonment, fined $1,000, and placed on 10
years of supervised release. A 44-year-old man received a sentence of 20
years imprisonment, fined $900 and placed on 10 years of supervised
release. The two were among 31 defendants charged by a federal grand jury
in July 2005 with conspiring to manufacture and distribute Meth. Under
federal law, they have no possibility of parole and are required to serve
at least 85 percent of their sentences.
They were picked up
as part of an investigation that has resulted in the federal indictment of
33 people in related cases who, in total, were responsible for the
manufacture or attempted manufacture of the equivalent of over 400,000
grams – about 882 pounds - of Meth.
In
Connecticut A 34-year-old
man pleaded guilty
to one count of possession of pseudoephedrine with the intent to
manufacture Meth. He admitted that on the day federal, state and local
law enforcement agents arrived at his home to execute a federal search
warrant he possessed pseudoephedrine with the intent to manufacture Meth.
He faces a maximum sentence of 20-years imprisonment and a fine of up to
$250,000.
In
Louisiana Police officers noticed something being thrown out
the passenger side window of a car, so they pulled the driver over and
searched the area. Officers found 122-grams of Meth. The two men in the
car were arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute
Meth.
In
Arkansas
District Judge Don Bourne set bond Friday morning for Two women, 28- and
21-years-old, were arrested after allegedly selling Meth to undercover
agents on three separate occasions. The women had their children with
them during the buys. They have not been officially charged yet.
In
Iowa A
44-year-old man who authorities say was the Iowa link in a three-state
Meth ring that smuggled 28 pounds of the drug to the state faces a life
term in federal prison. He was found guilty of drug trafficking, money
laundering and firearms violations. A sentencing date has not been set.
The defendant helped bring Meth from sources in Las Vegas and Arizona
between 1998 and 2006. He and others shipped tens of thousands of dollars
from the Iowa operations back to Nevada and Arizona to buy more Meth.
Prosecutors say he also displayed and carried a 9mm handgun during drug
transactions or when collecting drug debts.
In
Ohio A man who operated a Meth lab out of his home was sentenced to
three years in prison. He was arrested after police searched his home and
said they found materials to make Meth inside. His home, and the
operating Meth lab, was just feet away from a day care.
In
Texas A 36-year-old man and two 26-year-old men were arrested for
their suspected involvement in a major Meth ring. Officials are still
searching for four more suspects in the case. If convicted, the
defendants face between 10 years and life in federal prison.
In
Tennessee A mother whose 21-month-old son became sick after ingesting
Meth will serve 75 days in jail. She entered a no-contest plea to the
charge of misdemeanor child abuse. She must also undergo an alcohol and
drug assessment and attend parenting classes. The charges were brought
after the toddler was taken to a hospital because he was sick.
