April 30
In Washington - An anonymous caller tipped police to a truck leaking anhydrous ammonia, saying someone had been exposed to the chemical.  The caller also told police where they could find the man they said was transporting the ammonia to make Meth.   When police found the truck, they discovered a tank full of anhydrous ammonia in the back seat.  The man driving the truck claimed he had it for a vegetable garden but was vague and couldn’t give them information to confirm his claim.  He was arrested for driving with a suspended license and being held for possession of the suspicious chemical.

In North Dakota - A woman who was found sleeping in a parked car with her naked infant son in the backseat will be going to trial on two charges, including one for child abuse or neglect. She was arrested last fall after police found several packets of Meth with her in the car.  She pleaded guilty to possession of Meth within a thousand feet of a school, and possession of drug paraphernalia. The trial will be on two charges relating to her son.

In Kentucky -
A hunter spotted suspicious equipment in the middle of a camping area in a national forest and called the U.S. Forest Service.  When officers examined the site, they discovered a complete, but inactive, lab capable of producing a large quantity of Meth.  There were no campers at the site and they do not know yet who was responsible for the lab.
**Remember, as the weather warms up, Meth cooks may be setting up labs outdoors in areas you might happen upon.  Please review the information on recognizing Meth labs and lab waste.

In Winnipeg, Canada – Royal Canadian Mounted Police seized equipment and chemical components of a Meth lab during a search of a rural home.  Officers believe someone was in the process of setting up the lab in the house. The bust stemmed from an earlier arrest, when officers responded to a suspicious vehicle call.  They arrested a 25-year-old man on an outstanding warrant and discovered Meth in his car.

In Florida - Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers investigating suspected turkey poachers came across a suspected Meth lab and alerted the sheriff’s office.  Eight officers approached the building after dark, and saw suspects walking around with spotlights and guns.  The officers didn’t want to risk a shootout next to a building where chemicals could be ignited and explode, so they set up a trap area.  Eventually, two vehicles carrying two men (42- and 36-years-old) and two women (42-and 35-years-old) were pinned in by stationary law enforcement vehicles to close one end of the exit path and then bringing in other law enforcement vehicles to stop the suspects from escaping the other direction. All four suspects were charged with Meth possession and manufacturing.  A search turned up more than 10-grams of Meth, a night vision monocular, a .50 caliber muzzle loaded gun, a 30-30 rifle with scope, a .22 caliber rifle with scope and a .35 caliber rifle with scope.

In Wisconsin - A judge entered a not-guilty plea on a defendant’s behalf during arraignment.  The 48-year-old man is accused of running three Meth labs in two counties.  In addition to drug charges, he also faces two counts of felony bail jumping.
