In
Texas - A 44-year-old police officer pleaded guilty to selling Meth
from his home. The man, who was on the police force for more than ten
years, was first charged in state court with marijuana possession after
his live-in girlfriend was found with crystal Meth at the house.
Narcotics detectives then received and worked on tips that the officer was
dealing large amounts of Meth from the residence. In his plea agreement,
the suspect admitted to knowing about at least two sales of Meth, as much
as 20-grams at a time. He faces up to three years in prison and a fine of
up to $250,000 when he is sentenced. His girlfriend and two other women
were also charged and are waiting for their trials.
In
Kansas – The defense lawyer for a 26-year-old man on trial in the
murder of a sheriff claims his client was so high on Meth the killing
could not have been premeditated. The difference could mean life in
prison or the death penalty. While the prosecution disagrees with the
defense, neither side can offer empirical evidence, because no toxicology
tests were done after the defendant was arrested.
In
Florida - Federal drug agents raided a home-based Meth lab. Officials
spend hours removing chemicals and equipment from the residence, but they
have not yet released information on any suspects in the case.
In
Alabama - A fire that destroyed a home may have been sparked by a Meth
lab. Investigators and narcotics officers gathered evidence after the
site cooled down, and believe the cause of the blaze was a Meth lab that
erupted. Firefighters are not sure if the residence was a house or a
mobile home, saying, "The fire basically burned like an oven. The metal
walls and roof stayed intact to some degree. It just cooked everything
inside." The fire melted siding on a mobile home about 30-feet away, but
firefighters contained the blaze before it could ignite the residence.
The place has a history of being suspected as a drug house. Three people
were arrested there in May, the third Meth-related raid at the house
belonging to a 40-year-old man. He was later arrested on Meth
manufacturing charges. Officials are not sure if he still lived in the
home.
In
Indiana – Police arrested a man and woman after police found evidence
of a Meth lab at a campground. Officers investigating numerous tips found
components of an inactive lab in a home on the campground.
In
California – An attempt to pull over a speeding car led to a short
foot chase, a potential Meth lab bust and four arrests. After following a
suspect, a police officer discovered the suspected lab in a shed behind a
home. The four suspects are facing preliminary charges including parole
violations and resisting or delaying an officer. One man admitted to
taking a hit of Meth in the shed just before the officer's arrival.
